Culinary Precision: High-performance systems meet moody hues in Bed-Stuy.
Designed for an aspiring chef, this Bed-Stuy townhouse is a study in atmospheric depth and technical rigor. The visual language is defined by a deeply saturated, curated palette: navy blues, earthy greens, and warm woods permeate every level, creating a cohesive, immersive environment.
The central design challenge was reconciling the client's culinary ambition with the physical constraints of a townhouse. Installing a professional-grade kitchen exhaust required a sophisticated conditioned make-up air system—a significant mechanical feat usually reserved for commercial spaces. To accommodate this without compromising the aesthetic, we executed a strategic relocation of the home's utility core to the center of the floor plan. This move allowed us to conceal the heavy vertical services within a central spine, liberating the front and rear facades for uninterrupted views and light.
The kitchen serves as the home’s command center, featuring a concealed pantry that maintains a clean visual field. At the rear, we introduced a massive structural opening that extends the kitchen onto a new custom metal deck, creating a seamless flow for entertaining. This bridge leads down to a reimagined garden, planted with swaying natural grasses and enclosed by a new cedar privacy fence—an organic counterpoint to the home's rich, tailored interiors.
